The St. Augustine Film Festival

The St. Augustine Film Festival is presented by Flagler College and features three days of 40 films from 20 countries from January 20 through 22, 2017.

Forty films from 20 countries will be screened during this international festival, including A Wing and a Prayer (Israel), Una Noche de Amor (Argentina), Two Lottery Tickets (Romania), and One Wild Moment (France), just to name a few. Visit here for a complete list of films and descriptions.

Films

Films will be screened at three locations downtown: Lewis Auditorium, Gamache-Koger Theater, and Corazon Cinema & Café. See below for addresses for all locations.

Film times run from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20; from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Saturday, January 21, and from 11:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 22. For a complete schedule of films and where they are being shown, see below.

There will be some special Preview Showings for All Access Pass holders on Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Parties

On Friday, January 20, 2017, the Film Festival begins with the Opening Night Cocktail Party, with drinks and hors d'oeuvres served beginning 6:00 p.m. at the Lightner Museum. Later that evening, at 8:45 p.m., the Opening Night Gala will take place in the Lightner Museum Ballroom.

The Centerpiece Party takes place on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. at St. Augustine's newest luxury resort, The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens.

The Closing Night Party will take place at the Flagler College Solarium, at the top of Ponce Hall.

Admission: Tickets for individual films are sold on an "as available" basis ten minutes before each film for $11 each ($8 for seniors, $7 for students and military with ID). Tickets that offer access to events and films over the three-day weekend are also available. The All Access Pass to all films is $95, and the Lewis Auditorium Pass, which includes only the films showing at Lewis Auditorium is $55. 

Party passes are $20 for Friday night's Opening Night Cocktail Party, $45 for the Opening Night Gala, $35 for the Centerpiece Party on Saturday, and $40 for the Closing Night Party on Sunday. An All Party Pass is $110.

When: The 2017 Festival will take place Friday through Sunday, January 20 through 22, 2017, with a special Preview Night on Thursday, January 19, for All Access Pass holders only. Films will be shown from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Special parties and galas will be held on all three nights of the festival.

Where: Films will be shown at these three downtown venues: The Corazón Cinema and Cafe (36 Granada St.), Flagler College's Gamache-Koger Theater (50 Sevilla St.), and Lewis Auditorium (14 Granada St.). Limelight Theatre 2013 Gala: Best of Broadway!

The Limelight Theatre Board of Directors will hold a gala event Jan. 12 in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., downtown St. Augustine. Now in its 21st year, this event is the Limelight’s annual fundraiser.

The gala evening will begin with a pre-show cocktail party from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the historic Lightner Museum in downtown St. Augustine. The reception will include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and a light dinner buffet. Guests also will have the opportunity to browse a wide variety of amazing items in the silent auction.

“A Tribute to Broadway,” directed by Gary Cadwallader with Shelli Long as Music Director, is produced by the Limelight Theatre Board of Directors and Limelight Theatre Executive Director Beth Lambert.

The show will begin promptly at 8 p.m. in the renovated Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, directly across the street from the Lightner Museum.

Donald and Janice Jones will be the emcees for the evening, and the live production promises to be fun and entertaining, with comedy and perhaps even a surprise in store for the audience.

A dessert and coffee buffet will be featured in the lobby during intermission, as well as another chance to bid on silent auction items. A 50/50 chance drawing will also be held that evening.

Tickets for the drawing are $10 each or three for $25 and are currently available at the Limelight Theatre Box Office through Jan. 11 (need not be present to win).

Tickets for pre-show party admission and reserved seating for the performance are $75 per person.

General admission tickets for the performance only are $40 per person.

My Big Fat Greek Food Festival

Greek food, dancing, Kids Rides and fun!

Delicious food, beautifully costumed dancers, a Kids Area with rides and games all combine to make My Big Fat Greek Food Festival a weekend of family fun! Join in the festivities on June 8-10 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2940 CR 214 (West King Street just before the I-95 overpass). Festival hours are Friday- Saturday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. This summer food festival gives the community another opportunity to sample Greek food and culture in St. Augustine.

The weekend’s featured event is an “An Evening of Comedy with Basile” at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9^th in the church fellowship Hall. Basile has entertained millions of comedy fans in the United States as well as internationally. Basile’s unique blend of material, improvisation, and characters has made him one of the most sought after comedians in the entertainment industry today.

Getting Married…and Other Fun Things to Do in St. Augustine

Happy Thursday LGs! Hope everyone is gearing up for the upcoming holiday travel season—today I’m heading out to California for Flavor! Napa Valley before heading home to Florida for a big turkey feast with my family. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is good, and the delays are minimal!

I wanted to take this opportunity to share the tremendously exciting news that one of the original LGs —Holly Corrbett—recently got married (Congrats!!) and the other—Jen Baggett—just got engaged! Wow!!! I’m so thrilled for both of my LG ladies, and look forward to more future travel with both of them….and their husbands.

As it turns out, Jen B has decided to get married in the ultra-charming little Floridian city of St. Augustine, which happens to be not just the oldest city in the US (founded in 1565), but the place where her formerly Maryland-based parents now live. She’s tapped me to be the maid of honor (aw!), and so we’re busy at work trying to plan a Lost Girls- worthy weekend adventure for all of her guests, and and exploring vacation rental homes in St. Augustine, so that her out-of-town guests will have a spacious and comfy place to sleep.

As it turns out, many of the guests are from New York City and New Jersey—where her fiance Kevin’s family is from—and have never been to St Augustine. Its a really cool town, with rustic cobblestone streets, historic sites (like the Fountain of Youth) and of course, beaches, and we wanted to make sure everyone had an idea of the best and most family-friendly things to do in St Augustine once they arrive.  Rather than doing a ton of reseasrch on our own (what, us research?) we snagged copy of this cool infographic, which sums it up rather nicely.

We recommend checking out St Augustine the next time you’re in Florida, or even booking long weekend in the area. Speaking from experience, its one of the few places in Jen and my home state where you can find a true mix of culture, adventure, natue and relaxation…and if you’re there the first weekend in June 2012, you can also find one very newlywed couple.

There is always something to do in St. Augustine, Florida, regardlsess of a day of the week or a season of the year. Attractions are going on all the time.

Winter is best for walking the streets and shopping during the sunny, mild afternoons, checking out the abundant antique shops and book stores, searching for Christmas gifts. At night, it is easy enough to bear the brunt of our winter weather to enjoy the Nights of Lights celebration around town, with millions of white lights all over town from November through February. With a slight chill in the air, retreating indoors for a delicious meal at any of our dozens of restaurants is then a good bet. Hot chocolate is also available at many cozy, beautiful cafés in the historic district.

In the spring, it quickly warms up enough for golf, tennis, and other sports, and the sightseeing trains begin to fill with short-sleeved visitors. Spring breaks are the best times to plan family trips to the famous historic sites of St. Augustine. Springtime is also a very popular time to hold weddings in the Old City, with the orange blossoms and azaleas around town all in bloom.

In the summer, you can’t pass up a trip to one of our many gorgeous area beaches. Parasailing and other water sports are available that turn your vacation into a memory that lasts a lifetime. Summer evenings are also wonderful for walks down St. George Street and strolls into the many exciting clubs and pubs in the area.

When the weather cools in the fall, and the sun begins to set a little earlier, it is the ideal time for one of the many ghost tours in St. Augustine. The cooler weather is also perfect for a cozy carriage ride, where you can bundle up with a blanket and enjoy hearing the history of the town first-hand.

Clearly, there is always something going on. Festivals of all kinds occur throughout the year. Just make sure to take the time to select the exact accommodations to put the icing on the cake of your trip to beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. The options are endless for a vacation to St. Augustine during any season and odds are that each season will have you experiencing the town anew.

When you arrive to the Nation's Oldest City you really don't know where to begin and what to start with as there are really a lot of things to do in St Augustine.
Try to ask the receptionist after the local current deals as you can get it cheaper when buying at the hotel.
